How do we subscribe again

I ran a test with someone in my nation and had them unsubscribe, now they are trying to resubscribe and it is still showing them as 'do not receive emails' and I cannot click the box in their profile. How can someone opt back in?

Official response from Taylor Pineiro

In order to comply with anti-spam laws, we prevent control panel users from opting in people who have previously unsubscribed. If you instruct the user to resubscribe on a signup page, they will again receive emails.

Taylor’s “click receive emails” solution doesn’t seem to be working for me. “RECEIVE EMAILS” option is NOT available to re-click. This is a problem! Help?

Erika – what you’ll need to do is remove their email from their profile – then create a new person (in people > +new person) with just the email and merge the two.

If a real person unsubscribes from all communication and then some time later decides they would like to receive emails again how can they “receive emails” again. The little check box in their profile is not editable and says " do not receive emails" Do I have to delete their profile and start again? Do I have to send them to a join page again?

To clarify. I could not edit my setting to receive email under people | Edit | Settings, as any admin would normally edit a person. As I have a nationbuilder account (like anyone using the Nationbuilder as an admin) I need to go to my account and look under ‘Contact Info’ I could where I could check the box to receive emails.
