Toggling optional/mandatory fields on recruit/donate pages

Groups like mine do a lot of cross-media advertising and recruiting, and our website sometimes serves as the meeting point. This has produced interesting complaints from some of the "old media recruits" who are hesitant to donate online period, let alone when they are then forced to provide information like phone numbers, email addresses, etc, because they do not want this information datamined, or used in any other way for solicitation.

Very specifically, right now we are doing a fundraiser, and we are losing donators because they won't complete the process because we require their email address and phone number for the transaction. In reality, while we would like that information for our records, we do not actually need it, and only need things like the address for reporting purposes.

So can options be created to toggle the mandatory nature of these fields in the recruit/donate page tools?

Can they become optional fields? We are greatly concerned people will be turned off that they are providing information that they then can be spammed with, and thus not donate. If we cannot turn it off, is there an autofill option that we can, in a sense, fill in with an “N/A”?

Can you make certain fields unrequired? For instance, we do not need to collect peoples phone numbers or email addresses, but they are not allowed to complete the form without these fields being completed.

HTML Editor doesn't like Picasa embeds - is there a work around for this?

Official response from Jesse Haff

You can paste the URL to a Picasa image on its own line in the content editor, not linked, and it should be automatically embedded when you click save. You can also place the actual embed code in template of the page. You cannot place embed codes into the content editor.
