What is the maximum length of the 'short bio' field in the user profile? Can it get a bit longer?

The short bio is capped at 247 characters. It's stored in a standard field so cannot be adapted for individual customers.

Well that’s good intel, if not good news. It seems needlessly strict. I would expect most people have more to say about themselves than one and a quarter tweets.

I do appreciate the reply however.
