How do I add a cookie warning for compliance with EU legislation?

All websites used in the EU must now comply with the "Cookie Law" gaining users consent to store cookies (including anything of a similar function).

Cookies or similar devices must not be used unless the subscriber or user of the relevant terminal equipment:

(a) is provided with clear and comprehensive information about the purposes of the storage of, or access to, that information; and

(b) has given his or her consent.

How can I add a notice for my nation's users?

You can now use our newly released analytics banner tool to gain user consent to store cookies.

You'll find all the HOWTO here.

There are a number of ways to achieve this. The easiest and most straightforward way is by using a script that displays a banner notifying your visitors of the use of cookies when they come to your website.

This can be done by utilizing a script creation software such as cookieconsent.insites.com or cookie-script.com to build a customized cookies banner.

Before making any changes to your nation, you will first need to create a custom theme if you don't already have one. The code to install in your header will look something like this:

<script type="text/javascript" charset="UTF-8" src="http://chs03.cookie-script.com/s/199541f9d9fa1a70b126e127f62bf161.js"></script>

To install it, go to Websites > Theme > layout.html and paste that code before the closing </head> tag.

There are multiple free sources of cookie scripts. For example Cookie Script, lets you customize the style and location of the pop up notification.

If you are working with a Certified NationBuilder Architects on your website, they can build a custom cookie notification in to the site for you. Let them know you need it when designing your site.
