How do I know if my domain is properly configured? I'd like to make sure my domain is connected to my NationBuilder website.
A NationBuilder website is successfully connected to a custom domain when the following conditions have been met.
- The domain is correctly configured in the control panel
- Your domain's DNS resolves to NationBuilder's name servers or proxies
- Searches for your domain successfully redirect traffic back to your NationBuilder website
A correctly configured domain might look differently based on whether you're using NationBuilder to host your DNS, or you're choosing to host your DNS elsewhere.
NationBuilder is hosting your DNS
To verify that your domain is correctly configured, in your control panel, navigate to Settings > Domains > [Your domain] (i.e., yourdomain.com).
If you've correctly configured your domain, your domain's "current values" should resolve to ns10-ns15.nationbuilder.com. This indicates that you've successfully added NationBuilder's name servers to your domain registrar (GoDaddy, NameCheap, etc.).
On the other hand, if your domain is not correctly configured, "current value" will appear in red and will not reflect the NationBuilder name servers. This indicates that our name servers have not been added to your registrar correctly. Remember that it can take up to 48 hours for your changes to propagate across the internet.
Finally, please verify that your website is attached to the domain by visiting "Sites."
If your site is correctly configured, the "attached" column will read "Yes." If it is not, it will read "No." If the "attached" column reads "no," click the pencil button, select the website you want to attach to your custom domain, and then hit "Save."
Once you've completed this process, your domain should be successfully connected.
DNS is hosted elsewhere
To verify that your domain is correctly configured, in your control panel, navigate to Settings > Domains > [Your domain] (i.e. "yourdomain.com") > Sites.
Click on the pencil icon. If you've correctly configured your domain, your domain's current values should be in green and should reflect the required values. You will also want to make sure that there is a site selected under "Use URL for site" and a subdomain selected for "URL*."
If all of these settings are correctly configured, then success! Your domain is properly attached to your NationBuilder website.
On the other hand, if your domain is not correctly configured, the "current values" will appear in red and will not reflect the required values. Also, there will be a flash message indicating "Your domain is not attached." You will want to make sure to add the required CNAME in your domain registrar to make sure your subdomain is connected to NationBuilder.
