Tips for increasing participation on your Suggestion Box

  • Using the suggestion box page, you can crowdsource suggestions and allow people to rate them based on criteria you specify, or comment. For example, you can solicit policy ideas around a particular topic and let people rate the ideas based on whether they are good, bad, impractical or important. Or you can crowdsource questions for an event, letting people rate them as great, off-topic, important, etc.

  • Choosing a suggestion box topic on a popular current event or news story will garner more attention and participation. The more obscure your topic, the less broad the appeal will be.

  • The more specific your topic, the more useful the suggestions will be.
  • The tags you choose for the suggestions are important. Think of them as distinct buckets you will later sort the suggestions by. Keep the tags short, specific and distinct from one another.

  • Have a couple people seed your suggestion box with suggestions. People are more likely to participate if they see others participating.
