Tips for setting up Google analytics
  • NationBuilder takes the headache out of donation tracking by automatically passing donation totals to Google Analytics. If you set up a goal for the donation page, you can see how many users who visit the page are actually donating, and how much.

  • Check the pageview count of your top level pages from time to time. If you notice an important page underperforming compared to the rest, you may need to link to it more prominently on your website. One way to check this is by clicking Content, then Content by Title in Google Analytics.
  • If you notice the exit percentage of a page is significantly higher than the others, considering making adjustments to keep your users on the site. This may include spicing it up with photos, videos, or hooks into other actions on your site.

  • Setup funnels to learn how many users are completing an action versus getting stuck somewhere in the process. For instance, you could setup a funnel to find out how many users land on your petition page and don't sign it, versus how many actually sign it. Or you could learn how many users land on a fundraising page and don't donate, versus donating. If you think a page is underperforming, you can tweak it until it improves. (Check the screencast for help on setting that up).
