What's the best way to do AB testing of messages? At this point, I'd be happy just to figure out an easy way to send to a small random portion of my list, but if there's something more sophisticated I'm all ears.

Use the list splitting tool on one of your lists. You can do percentages or even size grouped splits to get random samples. You can then send your email to one of those subsets from your master list.
