People API Membership Creation

I've used the People API to sync members between another system and NB but the API doesn't appear to set memberships on the new person record. Even with membership_level_name set no corresponding membership record is created for that person.

Furthermore no error is given if a non-existent membership type is specified. Is the people API not capable of creating memberships, am I doing it wrong, or has something changed?

Can somebody tell me how to find the “id” of a certain membership type? I’m using the API to search for people with a certain membership type but all the values I tried only return empty results.

Thanks Arion – I guess this is simply because the membership module is now out-of-sync with the API. For orgs like the one I was doing this for it probably does make sense for memberships to have a separate identity so that rather than memberships becoming an array of strings they live at something like:

/api/v1/people/:id/memberships/:mem_id

and with /api/v1/memberships/:id as the way to create and view stats on them. The changes to memberships are welcome as for this org and I suspect many others membership often confers special privileges upon people – for example voting rights.
