Suggest a feature for NationBuilder

We are constantly adding, refining and even removing features. This is the best place to make your voice heard on what you'd like to see. You can also suggest new support documentation you'd like to see.

Didn't find what you're looking for in the search box above? Add a suggestion.

Google Custom Search

It would be great if each theme came with various placements for the google custom search, along with a spot to input the "Search engine unique ID."

Official response from Adriel Hampton

In the meantime, check out these suggestions for implementing site search with NationBuilder, from Wrangler Media - http://www.wranglermedia.com/using_google_site_search_with_nationbuilder

Google Maps API Style Wizard

Google Maps API Style Wizard allows the public to change the color of maps for free and I am requesting that NationBuilder get access to this feature as well. It could be greatly benefical in adding to the overall theme and design workability to have this functionailty available to NationBuilder users. For instance Eco Friendly site could have a green map of us that shows all their events across the country with the google markers, Breast cancer groups a Pink map, Republicans a Red map and Coffee Nation a Brown map!

I want this feature to show my events happening across the country, Moms Marches in Red white and blue. It will really add to the impact of the site. It is available now to the public, can you make it available to your users?

Momsacrossamerica.com

Thank you!!!!

Google Plus pages integration to Broadcast Messages

It'd be nice to be able to Face tweet plus messages to a Google+ pages account. From what I gather they haven't made this open yet, but they did at least allow some early developers: http://mashable.com/2011/11/15/google-plus-pages-third-party-apps/

Hopefully you guys can pull some strings and get access for NationBuilders as well!

Grouping donation/recruiting goals & calculating subtotals for them

I wish there was a feature (I might call it "campaign") that would allow your users to organize donations and recruiting projects.  It would add another layer of complexity, but I think that it would be worthwhile.  Is there a feature that enables users to create "projects" or campaigns?  Does the Events page enable this feature?"

When I said "users" in the paragraph above, I actually meant your NationBuilder leaders who are using your platform.  By "organizing donations and recruiting projects" in the above paragraph, I meant grouping a set of goals for donation and/or recruiting drives in order to provide subtotals for accounting and tracking purposes. Currently, I see possibilities for displaying and tracking "overall totals" for these amounts or for setting and displaying an individual goal, but I don't see anything between these two levels of hierarchy (such as a feature that allows grouping and subtotaling.  If your NationBuilder leaders could have such a feature, they could track the success (or not) of each campaign grouping (or project).

HTML Source Editor additions

I would like a couple of additions on the coding pages:

1 - Please add line numbering on HTML Source Editor page so that it is easier to find specific lines of code.

2 - Please add a search option to the top of HTML Source Editor page so that it is easier to find specific code snippets.

Official response from Jim Gilliam completed

This is done, and the code editor is just much better all the way around.

Header resizing

NB keeps resizing my header down to 960px. I have changed the layout.html as suggested here: http://nationbuilder.com/how_can_i_change_the_size_of_my_header_image

Despite this, it continues to resize to 960px... any suggestions?

Help constituents track employee activity

One of the barriers citizens have to believing in their ability to change things (and really buying into their ownership and responsibility for their government) is the difficulty knowing or understanding what their reps are doing and having a convenient way of expressing their will on individual issues. (If they did pay more attention, things like money for tv ads so they could keep their jobs wouldn't be as necessary...but I digress). Each Congressional district and the junior and senior senators should have a web page and an individual nationbuilder twitter feed. It would report how their rep voted in the feed, and keep track of it on the page. The feed could also notify people in advance of larger votes and link to independent evaluation of legislation. It could also include lists of campaign statements/promises, and provide contact information for their offices revealed by buttons (click here to email pro/con) that would both reveal the info and let people know how many people are speaking up and which way the wind is blowing.

Household tracking

We support people with cancer and their family and loved ones. It is very important to our work that we are able to tie households together in our database.

We would like to assign people titles like father, mother, son, daughter or friend. Then we would like to mark the head of household to indicate who would be our main point for correspondence.

Official response from Adriel Hampton

Dominique, we do support householding for canvassing (it's a selection criteria when you're viewing a list of people). We also have a standard field for titles (the label is "occupation / title"). If you need to use occupation and titles, a tag is likely the best solution for the latter. Tags are great for keeping track of properties that will be frequently repeated in your data. You could also use a tag for the primary person.

If you need advice for householding for mail merge, we'd be happy to email you a guide to doing that with Excel.

How about accepting payments via Dwolla?

Max charge $.25/donation would be a great step forward, no?

Official response from Adriel Hampton
Robby, thanks for your suggestion. Dwolla does not support international payments, which is an important consideration for us in choosing to integrate with new processors. However, if we hear a lot of feedback in favor of this specific processor (and the fees are certainly nice!) that will help inform our prioritization.

I suggest putting Featured Content Sliders under the Content button

I had a little bit of difficulty finding it... but maybe it's under Settings so as not to take an extra line from the Content page..?

I want to only require zipcode

It would be FANTASTIC to have an option to require that signers submit their zipcode, instead of their whole address. I think people are hesitant to put their address down with a petition, and really, I only need the zipcode for regional targeting.

I would like the ability to edit the font size and other styles in the wysiwyg html editor

Sometimes copying and pasting screws with the fonts sizes or styles in the wysiwyg editor, even if you use the "paste from word" clipboard. I'd like a way to easily change the font size and type so I can standardize the text in my email or posting without having to painstakingly deal with it through the html editor.

I would like to be able to clone and schedule email messages for future delivery.

Official response from started

Cloning of email blasts is now possible in your nation. You can clone any delivered email blast by viewing the email statistics and clicking the clone button.

ICO e-Privacy Law support for UK/EU

The EU's new cookies/privacy law went into effect a few weeks ago in the EU and requires notification and consent to data storage.

More information here:
http://www.ico.gov.uk/for_organisations/privacy_and_electronic_communications/the_guide/cookies.aspx

While there are some third party tools now available to comply, NB should proably support this at the system level.

Icon legend

You new look makes it even harder to see the icons than before because they don't have color.

I'd like to be able to just send all our admins a list/legend because I get questions about what they mean all the time.

It is especially hard to tell the difference between the unsubscribed and the bouncing email icons because they are tiny and look very similar.

Can you please make a legend of all of them for us?

Thanks,

Kaitlin

Impact and Activity time charts

It would be amazing to produce a chart that reflects contacts made per unit of time. We can only see contacts made "today" and "yesterday", but then we cannot isolate what we made three days ago. It jumps to "seven days" "month" and so on.

Apparently there is an option to see contacts made per month, yet this was not very useful for us in an incredibly rushed one month national presidential campaign.

Best

Import Donations Fields

It would be very helpful to be able to map onto the the finances fields so one could import donations from a csv.

Import Notes Field

It would be incredibly useful to be able to import not only the contact fields but also the note field. This would allow us to do automated donor research outside of nation builder and then import it back into the system. Right now that isn't possible.
