Suggest a feature for NationBuilder

We are constantly adding, refining and even removing features. This is the best place to make your voice heard on what you'd like to see. You can also suggest new support documentation you'd like to see.

Autoresponder for "keyed" donations

I really like the autoresponder from donations via the web page.   Is there a way to create an auto response if the transaction is manually keyed in under finances - new donation?
Like all campaigns we do use some direct mail for donations, it would be nice to automatically send them the receipt when we key it.

Autoresponses for New Volunteer Sign ups needs to get to them automatically

When a new volunteer signs up on our site we have an auto-response email which explains what their next step is. I recently discovered that if they uncheck the "get mail updates" box then they do not get their first introductory email thus creating a major hassle for me because I now have to go and look at each and every new volunteers account to see if they checked the box or not. If someone signs up online to be a volunteer obviously there needs to be email contact with them, so there needs to be a distinction between "email updates" and their introductory auto-response email after signing up to be a volunteer. I think this is something that needs to be addressed sooner than later.  -Mike   www.wolf-pac.com

Auto save feature!

I would LOVE an auto-save feature! I can't count the number of times I've forgotten to save my work and lost it all when I move to another page.

Avoid losing unsaved changes

There's no warning that you're about to lose unsaved changes when going from the say the "Into" section of an event to the "Location" section. It's fairly simple javascript to pop up a warning that unsaved changes will be lost. Can't tell you how many times I've lost unsaved edits this way.

Backend calendar

It would be great to have a separate calendar that only people with permission can edit and view. This would be used in a task management function to sort deadlines, assignments, staff meetings, etc.

Back end sorting of events by date

For events, I want to be able to sort by date on the backend, to help me find records.  So would like to be able to sort on the “when” field…but probably for any of the fields, envisioning other scenarios.

Bad Address Button

Could you please add a "bad address" button on profiles so we don't have to either tag it as such or delete the address entirely? Besides time-saving it will prevent the headache of having another tag or having deleted an address that was only entered inproperly, forcing us to reenter it again in its entirety.

Bad Contact Info

When someone is marked "Bad Info" "Wrong Number" or similar status, that should remove the incorrect contact info from the record.

Basic content type without visual editor

Can we please have a content type that does not use the visual editor?

Occassionaly there are pages that need to have content that is not filtered by the visual editor. The HTML edit button is not always sufficient, as the visual editor will still filter text inputed directly into the HTML Source editor.

Please let me know if it would be helpful for me to demonstrate that.

Thanks!

Official response from Jim Gilliam started

We have a white list of what HTML will get stripped from the wysiwyg editor. It's been a challenge getting all the right stuff in there and still maintaining the security for web safeness, but if you can give me specific tags or attributes that you need to work, we can get those in.

And I know you already know this, but for others who may see this, the template is where you can put in any HTML, JavaScript, or embedding that you want. The wysiwyg editor is meant to be web safe as some page types (and eventually just about all of them) could be editable from your public site.

Basic template and colors for Dashboard

I would like to have basic template and color options for the Dashboard.

Official response from Jim Gilliam not planned

It sounds like you want to change the color scheme and the templates in the control panel?  That's not something we plan on doing. Changing the color scheme would be possible, although we don't intend to allow that.  Letting modifications to the control panel templates would not even be possible.  It's not the same kind of templating as the live site liquid stuff you are used to.

Batch de-duping

Big fan of the transparent data-driven de-duping ("Is this a duplicate? The ID of the person to merge into" field on each record).

Since the merge process starts by relating record IDs, it seems possible to leverage that into batch deduping by loading a two column file containing "current record ID of a duplicate" and "the ID of the person to merge into".

I can see where you might prefer in the long-run to develop internal tools for matching and batch de-duping. But the capability to export, then use external matching tools, and then load in the results would be great to have in the meantime.

Batch editing of some page settings

It would be extremely useful to batch edit some page features like subpage, comments, sidebar, stream, permissions, etc. As we work on larger and larger NB sites, it's becoming immpractical to edit some simple things one at a time for a dozen or more pages.

Batch update language

That needs to be addressed. We now have to do it manually and it's very time consuming

Batch Update- Remove Phone numbers

It would be incredibly useful to be able to batch update records and REMOVE the phone number associated with the records.

I understand that yall suggest just marking the number as a bad number but this adds numerous steps in removing "bad numbers" from lists when creating them.

I highly encourage NatioBuilder to create a feature where a user can remove phone numbers using the batch update.

BCC or forward email into NationBuilder and attach to record

Let's be honest - nobody likes to log into their CRM to do quick updates as we interact with your supporters. Thankfully there's a solution for day-to-day one-on-one email interactions: BCC and attach to record!

When you email your supporter you BCC to a private custom email address that finds your supporter's contact record in NationBuilder and attaches the contents of the email.

Highrise, Salesforce and other CRMs have this feature and it is THE BEST!

Example: http://help.37signals.com/highrise/questions/37-dropbox-101-how-do-i-forward-cc-or-bcc-an-email-to-my-highrise

Official response from Joe Conte

Hey Eli, you can accomplish this by bcc'ing yourself - provided it's attached to a broadcaster. The email will then be logged in the supporter's profile.

Be able to reuse URLs

I've now had my Nation long enough that I'm hitting the second iteration of an annual event - and it's frustrating that I can't use the same URL for an event.

I want people to be able to go to danedems.org/convention/, but I want it to be a new event each year.

I'm mostly OK if danedems.org/convention was just an alias or redirect, and internally I have to give it a new name, like 'convention_2013'

I also know the saying 'cool URLs don't change' and I'm usually a firm believer, but sometimes they do change :)

Being able to edit comments...

...would be great (if only to make them look nicer when people use too many line breaks...)

Better Call Sheets

For the old-school clients, who call from paper call sheets: I need one-page-per-prospect call sheets.

Better geocode guessing

If you supply a street address, but no city, state, or zip, NB will guess the rest of the address. Mostly incorrectly, which makes sense given 1321 Maple exists in hundreds of towns. Better for it not to guess if not supplied with enough information than to guarantee inocrrect information in the database.
