Field selection for exports
Whether exporting donations or people, NationBuilder always exports every field available. 99% of the time this is more than you need. We need some kind of pre-export tool that allows us to check off fields, or just a few different types of exports like "contact info. only" "address only" "fundraiser" and "full".
event/donate hybrid page-type
What we've seen from running larger scale fundraising operations on NationBuilder is that donors are often confused/lost in the process of going from a ticketed event page to the contribution page for check-out. From a UX standpoint, it's pretty clear that when you lengthen the process for someone trying to purchase a ticket to an event to two pages, you are likely to lose some folks along the way.
An event/donate hybrid page-type would solve this problem. Letting people RSVP and actually purchase their tickets on the same page would definitely improve drop-off rates for online ticket sales.
Every major ticketing system has an event details page where you select how many tickets you want, and then you land on the payment page. It's the most desirable interface for this functionality.
Display a dynamic list - support community interaction
I can prepare a list and download it as .CSV, then post it as a static page. But that really misses the point of NB doesn't it?
I think we could more fully support community development if folks could connect with others (in my case, farmers and customers) on the fly.. e.g. by NB or FB messaging, "will you have okra at the market this week?" So to be able to see a dynamic list of members with similar interest would be a huge benefit. To do that would need a live link to their profile from the page.
Essentially what I want to do is have a dynamic, opt-in directory of local food sources.
Social Sharing for Emails
I would like to be able to place links in my email template so that supporters can share that email on Facebook and Twitter. This would likely require creating a webpage that caches emails and then automatically placing that link within share/tweet URLs.
Dreaming of a wireless-free tablet app: NationBuilder door-to-door
For campaigns emphasizing shoeleather work -- door knocking, face-to-face interviews, pamphlet drops -- it would be GREAT to have an app that would support downloading of a prospect list to a tablet, tablet-based data updates (as in Call mode or Data entry mode), and re-uploading of the data to the NB database. Ideally the data update part would work without a wireless link. (Otherwise, this functionality already exists through a web browser.)
Option to turn off style sheet compression, for developers
In almost every other web development environment, Firebug happily displays the line number of the style sheet. In NationBuilder, it always says "line 1" since the scss file has been compacted to one line. Would there be a way to have a developer's option, to turn off style sheet compression?
"Like page" text should be editable in the backend
There should be a field in the backend where you can change what it says above the like page ("like this page") so you can cater the call specifically to the page content. We often do this for clients in our practice but it's tedious and it would be nice if clients could write a blog post and then custom write that call to the content of the post, for example.
Thanks NB! You rule!
Calendar: change the number of events per page or sort via a different method e.g., alphabetically
On Calendar pages, it would be nice to be able to change the number of events per page or sort via a different method e.g., alphabetically.
Language switch
I desperately need a language switch function! I cannot make my site public if it is not available in the other official language. For now I am creating a mirror site - not the best solution. Please consider this and at least offer it like wordpress does. Thanks.
Thank you for your suggestion, André. Automatic translation is not a native feature of NationBuilder, but we are considering ways to improve the templating for our bi-lingual and non-English nations. Additionally, some of our NationBuilder Architects specialize in creating non-English themes and providing translation services. You can find the list of Architects here.
Need to be able to enter recurring payments
Disappointed, and frankly feeling a little misled to learn that when you say we can accept recurring payments, you mean we can accept them only if: the new member makes the contribution online, and if they either have or are willing to open a PayPal account as part of the process.
We take most of our payments the old-fashioned way: asking people to become members in person, and having them fill out a membership card. Organizers need to be able to enter recurring payments off of those cards when they get back to the office in order for this feature to be useful to us. We're willing to pay the monthly PayPal fee for their recurring billing system, if that provides an easier API for you guys to hook into. Or, we could go back to the Authorize.net/merchant account we were using prior to switching to PayPal to accomodate this system, if that's an easier API toolset to set this up without making members jump through account-opening hoops.
Thanks for the feedback. The reason we implemented Paypal recurring payments first was because it was the payment provider that worked for the broadest number of customers. Most people don't have merchant accounts with Authorize.net so spending the time to integrate its ARB system wasn't going to help as many people as Paypal. We actually didn't even realize that people would need to have Paypal accounts until we really got into implementing it.
Your use case of signing up memberships offline is totally valid, we want to support it, and it is on the list of things to do. It sounds like supporting Authorize.net ARB is what would work best for you? The other alternative is to support Democracy Engine's new recurring billing system which doesn't require a merchant account like Authorize.net, but would still allow you to put in cards manually.
Call View RSVP and Logged Info
Would be awesome if when logging calls you could log an RSVP and the details in the 'logged call' tab at the same time- it only lets you select one or the other before the contact gets processed and chucked off the list
Upload photos usability.
Nationbuilder is terrific... but uploading photos to a NationBuilder blog doesn't win usability awards.
- I wonder if there's a way to make it a little more obvious. For instance, perhaps the TinyMCE image upload icon could click through to the file uploads page.
- Default theming for a blog image could be improved.
- One user has asked about accessing images that were uploaded to a separate blog, which Im' guessing is a common use case.
- Also, having a picture resize function inside the CMS seems pretty standard these days. Does the width/height setting simply resize the dimensions, or does it actually resize the photo?
Expense Reporting, Budgeting
It would be helpful if NB included an expenses integration to keep track of campaign related expenses (like for Nationbuilder!). Expenses have to be filed along with contributions so it would be helpful to have this all in one place. The the finance tab could have "cash on hand" so that the candidate/mgr would have an idea of how much money is available. Maybe this could be a tie-in with Freshbooks? (they just introduced automatic downloads from your banks, which is awesome!)
Different point person for each volunteer role or signup tag
It would be great if volunteers could get auto-assigned to different point people depending on the role they choose.
Same goes for the tag people choose when signing up.
Newsletter Reports
Exportable Email Blast reports. I like doing everything in one place. But I can not get the same reports I can from MailChimp or Virtcual responce. I would like to be able to export all the data about one email blast as a single export, instead of needing to make diffrent list.
Add respective event URLs to calendar CSV exports
This is picking up on this question which doesn't seem to have been turned into a feature suggestion yet.
We'd quite like to run all of our event management through NationBuilder so the CSV exports that get posted elsewhere should definitely feature the corresponding URLs for each event.
As we're dealing with more and more screenings for our films, it will become more and more important to export these in batches without the need for further editing.
As endorsed elsewhere, it will also be crucial to us to have the country of the venue added to the CSV.
Should be easy, no? :-)

Link Spouses
I often need the name and information about a spouse. It would be useful to have a Spouse cell in the Dashboard that linked their accounts together.
It would also be really useful to have this information placed on the call sheets when they are printed.
Constituent Email Forms
It would be super helpful if I could set up email forms that allow supporters to email their politicians through a pass-through email form, like some other CSM systems do. It's such a helpful organizing tool.
Diane, thanks for your suggestion - this is one of our most popular feature requests and we'll let you know if and when it's implemented. Email pass-throughs to a single target can be created now using HTML in our content editor, as described in this third-party tutorial.
