Suggest a feature for NationBuilder

We are constantly adding, refining and even removing features. This is the best place to make your voice heard on what you'd like to see. You can also suggest new support documentation you'd like to see.

Configure people listing view

When looking at lists of people, I see their name, city, state, and country.  100% of my people are going to be in the same city, state, and country, so this is not useful information for me.  It would be handy to be able to configure the listing view to show other pertinent info about the people - for example to show their street address instead.

Make action-based tagging reversible

When a user signs a petition (or completes another action), we can tag him/her (as, say, petition_signer), but if s/he unsigns that petition (or otherwise undo the action), the tag (petition_signer) remains. Since the "on action" tags exist solely to track actions, shouldn't those tags be tied to the users' status for that action? (eg, when a user unsigns a petition, his/her petition_signer tag should zap itself.)

please add support for QuickBooks online credit card processing

right now there is no way other than manually donation by donation to transfer information from NationBuilder to QUickBooks online (as far as I know). Since QuickBooks online will accept credit card donations (one-time AND recurring payments) for a competitive price to those processors you currently support ($19.95/month plus 1.7% - 2.5% plus $0.29/transaction) it would be a TREMENDOUS benefit if Intuit could process contributions through NationBuilder that show up in QuickBooks online. Can this be done?

The only way of doing recurring payments now via NB is through PayPal, and that requires the donor to create a PayPal account, not just use a credit card. Many donors won't do that: "too confusing" and "too many repetitive steps" are the most common complaints.

Broader support for exporting other types of donations manually entered into NB --- checks, money orders, cash, etc --- to QB would also be supported, but the credit card processing would be the most valuable.

Previous Next (older newer) links/buttons in single blog post view

This is pretty standard fare for a blog when on the single post view. It's poor flow to have to return to a list just to get to the next or previous post.

Add recruit number variable for email

Based on this question: http://nationbuilder.com/taylorscollon/adding_variables_to_email_blasts

Add a variable for email blasts that pulls up the recipients number of recruits.

I think this would be valuable for applying some social pressure to people, particularly if you said "You have recruited 4 people so far. The average person in your area has already recruited 15 people."

Thanks

Discrete boxes for user address entry fields, instead of one entry box with comma separators

Users signing up for our site are not inserting the commas as directed in the single box for entering their address. This results in a huge number of address errors in downloaded people lists. There would be far fewer errors if there was a discrete box for each data entry field.

Official response from Adriel Hampton not planned

NationBuilder provides a single address field and then parses that data to create mappable records. We do not plan to support individual boxes for portions of an address.

Separate boxes can lead to form fatigue and a drop-off in user signups. We require minimal signup information on fields to maximize initial signups, and have created advanced search functionality under the "address" section to help find any people with incomplete addresses who may need followup by phone or email.

If you have specific examples of the address parser not working correctly, we're happy to take a look if you email specific details to help@nationbuilder.com.

Email Signature

Is there a way to create and automatically add an email signature to emails sent within the dashboard? Not mass emails, but individual ones sent to contacts / supporters.

Omit appending current page to facetweets

There are time (like after joining, doing a survey, etc) when you want to encourage people to tweet, but you don't want the URL of the "thank  you" page getting tweeted, but would rather have the starting page being promoted.

Nationbuilder appends the current page's URL onto the end of the tweet, and it would be nice to have a checkbox on the facetweet edit form to make this appending optional.

Email Duplication Tool

This is essential for anyone who has supporters and prospects. Right now, we are having to recreate the emails entirely in order to be able to send to both segments, including reuploading image content. This is a real hassle that could be remedied quite easily with the "duplicate email" button functionality found in ConstantContact and MailChimp.

Official response from C.J. MinsterCheng completed

Emailing supporters and prospects different information allows you to tailor your communication based on whether or not the person has opted into communication from your organization. Sending the same email to prospects and supporters is not recommended, since prospects do not have a context for your communication and may consider it spam. This FAQ discusses how to turn prospects into fans. This is related to the reason supporters and prospects cannot be emailed at the same time.

If you open two windows, you can copy and paste from one email blast to another one. To suggest a new feature to NationBuilder, please post it  on our suggestion page, which gives others the opportunity to add their voice to the utility of your suggestion.

For this particular suggestion, you can add your voice to this reusable email feature suggestion. You could also reach out to other users via Twitter to encourage them to support this feature request.

Coupon Code or Free Month option for membership

I think it would be very helpful from a marketing perspective for some of the sites on Nation Builder being built to have the ability to give someone a coupon code to discount or make a month free for members. It's a great way to have customers/supporters test the water and see the value provided with having a membership. Is there a way for us to implement our own "14 day trial" to our members for our sites?

Slightly more advanced email functions!

Ability to schedule email blasts and to see supporter email behaviour (opened, clicked, etc.) in their profile

Official response from Adriel Hampton

Email blast scheduling is now live. Thanks!

Mailman replacement

I'd like a nationbuilder email listserver with functionality equivalent to Mailman, list signup, moderation, bulk add, interaction, etc.  I am willing to pay for such a service, as it would allow me to shut down the remaining web host I have running.

Assign Point Person By Region

Our organization is international so it would be really helpful when people sign up that they are automatically assigned to a point person by region based on the address they provide when they enroll. It would also be a great thing to be able to assign them multiple point people for different things for example:

1. for their region

2. for a team they are on whether it be volunteer etc.

Filter out auto-replies

When a broadcaster is set up to receive email and also used as the sender of an email blast, it'll end up with lots of automatic replies sent from people's autoresponders, which again will each trigger a follow-up for incoming email.

As people also reply to our emails with actual enquiries, it wouldn't make sense to turn the follow-up off.

Is there any way your system could figure out if an incoming email is an auto-reply or not, and act accordingly...?

Tracking which lists are people on

Would be great if there was a tab to track which lists different supporters/prospects were on?

Also with a little (+) or (-) next to each tab to remove them from a list if you want.

I'm shuffling people between events (one per list) and it would be good to have a single place to do this, rather than having to go through each list.

Thanks!

Ability to Move Blog Entries

I have found that I could use the blog feature for other things as well besides making a blog. The only issue is I can't move the entries around to suit say...making an instruction page that goes step by step because I would have to make a point to create the first step last in order for the numbers to go in order. Having the ability to move entries could open the door for giving this feature all types of functions and uses.

Quiz or Test Feature

It would be nice to have a quiz or test feature. Preferably where answers are given after the person is done taking the test so they can see how they did. It would nice to also have an option to see how there score compared with others who took the test as well.

For those in politics this is a great way to see if people really understand you and your platforms.

For organizations it is a great way to train volunteers on precedures.

Default From address when replying to incoming mails

When hitting 'reply' to an incoming email shown in the stream, it is easy to overlook that the From address isn't necessarily set to the broadcaster to whom the incoming mail was addressed, which may cause a lot of confusion at the receipient's end. Would it be possible to always default to the broadcaster who was originally addressed?

Also, would it be possible to send our replies from "Broadcaster Name" <broadcastername@domain> rather than just broadcastername@domain?

Thanks for making it happen. :-)
