Suggest a feature for NationBuilder

We are constantly adding, refining and even removing features. This is the best place to make your voice heard on what you'd like to see. You can also suggest new support documentation you'd like to see.

Didn't find what you're looking for in the search box above? Add a suggestion.

Summary of communication and engagement per person

A very useful tool I think would be one where each supporter/prospect has a summary of all the communications they have received and engaged with. That way you can track which e-mails they've been sent and read or clicked on.

This could be added to the stream on the person's page, or as a separate tab (that would be preferable).

What it will do is allow us to understand which issues are of most interest to the supporter, whether they are engaged at all, or how much follow up they could receive.

E-mail blasts are the most common way we engage with our supporters, but there's no easy way on a per-person basis to assess their effectiveness.

Thanks.

document/file storage/downloads area

A specific document/file storage/downloads area would be helpful for us, or at least some sort of pdf insertion tool. Right now we use Dropbox because of its usability but would rather avoid linkout, plus have the ability to restrict access to "members" only if we wanted. We have found pdf and other document storage and access to be more cumbersome than we'd expected with nationbuilder. This will be a key item for us in the future given our plans for a searchable database linking the 2 main aspects of our "nation"

Preferred Contact Method on Volunteer and other Sign Up pages

It would be great if there was a Preferred Contact Method option on the volunteer sign up page. Right now it's just "When are you available?"

It would be great to have buttons for:

Phone Call

Email

Text

Email Template Engine

I would love an updated Email Template WYSIWYG engine. The preview window is way too narrow, and bears only a passing resemblance to what the email actually looks like once you receive it.

Liquid Variable that returns an array of members

A liquid variable that returned an array of all individuals belonging to a class of membership within the CRM would enable the creation of a membership directory. The array might include a link to the public profile for each individual returned, allowing members to display and keep updated their contact information. Theoretically, it could be set up on a members only page, allowing for the creation of a members only membership directory.

Google Maps API Style Wizard

Google Maps API Style Wizard allows the public to change the color of maps for free and I am requesting that NationBuilder get access to this feature as well. It could be greatly benefical in adding to the overall theme and design workability to have this functionailty available to NationBuilder users. For instance Eco Friendly site could have a green map of us that shows all their events across the country with the google markers, Breast cancer groups a Pink map, Republicans a Red map and Coffee Nation a Brown map!

I want this feature to show my events happening across the country, Moms Marches in Red white and blue. It will really add to the impact of the site. It is available now to the public, can you make it available to your users?

Momsacrossamerica.com

Thank you!!!!

Improve Facebook tracking

Currently we have a large Facebook audience that regularly interact with our page, but we have no way to track them. It's nice that some of the likers make their way into Nationbuilder, but it has some serious flaws:

  • NB doesn’t track people that share or comment, leaving out a large portion of engagement data.
  • NB doesn’t track all post likes, and is very inconsistent in the tracking it does do.
  • NB doesn’t work out engagement rates for individual supporters, making it difficult to target our high-engagement supporters.

Ideally, we'd be able to see how frequently a supporter interacts with our broadcasters on social media, and be able to search for supporters with high engagement rates.

Official response from Adriel Hampton

Frederick, any time someone likes one of your Facebook posts, they earn virtual currency - which is the measure of their engagement rate. All you have to do is sort your people lists by this currency (pc) to rank them by engagement level. You can also use the advanced search "Influence" section to search for specific ranges of currency.

To change the defaults for how much currency someone earns for their Facebook or Twitter activity, go to Settings > Political capital and you'll be able to edit the values for dozens of engagement activities. This is a very effective way to find out who your all-star supporters are - you can even set a leaderboard to recognize these folks publicly if you like.

Improve batch delete for donors

The batch delete function does not warn you that it will not delete People who have donations associated with them. Instead, it pretends to delete them, but does nothing.

Reading elsewhere (http://nationbuilder.com/astrausgarcia/deleting_donor_records?recruiter_id=240050) we see that it's deliberate, and we're told to manually delete EACH DONATION RECORD before we can delete donors, again one-by-one.

I've been taking the precaution of working out my donor imports on a scratch nation - everyone can and will make mistakes, and I'm no exception. But it turns out the stakes for making a bad import on a production nation with donor data are currently extremely high, even higher than I thought. If I screw up a donor import, lets say of 1,200 donations, I can either have you restore my database to before the import. (That is, assuming I had the foresight to remember to make a database snapshot.) Or, I can go and delete, BY HAND, INDIVIDUALLY, 1,200 donation records.

My suggestions:

1) At the very least, install a warning in the interface telling us that you can't delete people with donor records when it is attempted ( “xx of the yy people selected have donations associated. You will need to individually delete these donations, etc, etc: [link to this support issue]”

2) Warn users before doing donor imports that users created during such imports can't be removed in bulk, only individually.

3) Consider allowing us to not only create database snapshots ourselves (which is a great feature, and much appreciated), but also restore them ourselves, with the appropriate dire warnings.

4) Please reconsider your stance on deleting people with donor records.

Allow Form Fields that drop tags

It would be useful to have a template element that would drop an arbitrary tag on a user who selects that form element. I'm thinking specifically of a checkbox that, if checked, would assign the associated tag to the given user. To prevent abuse, you probably want an "allowed tags" field on the back side of the page.

Surveys are only appropriate for some applications - a 14 page survey is going to induce a lot more fatigue than 14 checkboxes ("I like  [ ] Donuts [ ] Muffins [ ] Bagels etc."), this page  – http://www.markerstudio.com/marketing/2011/10/how-many-fields-should-you-have-in-your-form/ notwithstanding.

Tags are too easy to delete from a profile

Since they are highlighted, you can start typing and lose all your tags. Need a way to remove tags one at a time instead of all at once.

Nationbuilder Facebook Application/iFrame Support

While it is possible to create a page on your nationbuilder site to be shown on a company's Facebook page as an iFrame (via a Facebook page application), it is not possible to use that to allow users to signup to Nationbuilder's services, enter full volunteer information or donate. Nationbuilder does pull in a lot of information from Facebook, but this would give companies another place for Nationbuilder functions to be utilized, increasing the reach of their nations.

This could be made to work in one of two ways:

1) A dedicated Nationbuilder Facebook app.
2) the ability to utilize Nationbuilder functions within iFrames. This would allow theme designers to create pages dedicated solely to the Facebook application (styled just as they wish). From my experience this would seem to be the less development-intensive method, if possible.

Print PDF Petition Should Include Addresses

The current Print PDF function of the Petition Dashboard displays names, states and comments– but not full addresses. I suggest address fields (street, city, state and zip) be added to the PDF. This would make it easier to deliver petitions to elected leaders signed by their constituents.

Voter Registration (UK)

Hi,

The Rock the Vote registration tool is a great feature.  Unfortunately its not available in the UK.

There is a tool published by the UK Electoral Commission www.aboutmyvote.co.uk. Which takes the user through a series of steps to generate a PDF for printing, signing and returning offline.

Integration of the aboutmyvote.co.uk tool into the nation builder platform would be great.  The data used is to create the aboutmyvote.co.uk tool is freely available.

Are you considering implementing a UK version of voter registration?

Header resizing

NB keeps resizing my header down to 960px. I have changed the layout.html as suggested here: http://nationbuilder.com/how_can_i_change_the_size_of_my_header_image

Despite this, it continues to resize to 960px... any suggestions?

Add to List from Supporter Profile

It would be useful to be able to add someone to a list from a supporters profile.

Multiple Point Person(s)

Allow for more than one "Point Person", like a point person tag. This would allow supporters whose involvement has overlapping coordinators to be "assigned" to more than one person. Useful in the "data-security" model.

Official response from Adriel Hampton

Joe, if you set a followup type for someone, multiple people can track that in the dashboard followup view.

You can also see anyone assigned to someone who you're the point person for under "your network" - and you can use the "network" button on anyone person's profile to follow their activity.

Lists | Address View for Lawn Sign Crew

When assigning a list to a member of a lawn sign crew, it would be helpful to have a "address" view so you don't need to individually assign each person to a crew member. The map view is a clumsy work around.
