Enable gzip content-encoding on API responses

I have an app that needs to download a lot of data from multiple nations via the API. I was surprised to see that data returned from the API is not compressed. Json returned from endpoints such as people index are highly compressible. The time taken to run the app is limited by bandwidth so enabling compression would make a huge difference. I even tried making the request with the header: "Accept-Encoding": "gzip;q=1.0, deflate;q=0.5, identity;q=0.0" To tell the server that I *really* didn't want a non-compressed response. See also:
