Ian Patrick Hines

Ian Patrick Hines is the founder and CEO of Hines Digitalan award winning, internationally renowned, conservative digital agency that’s out to beat the left at their own game by out-hustling, out-organizing, and out-fundraising them.

From November 2012 – November 2013, Ian was a NationBuilder Tech Organizer, during which time he became one of the world’s foremost NationBuilder experts. He’s now helping campaigns and organizations get the most out of their nations as a certified NationBuilder Expert & Architect.

Prior to joining NationBuilder, he spent nine years in Maryland politics where he served in nearly every role from field organizer to communications director. In 2003, when online organizing was new and unproven, he managed the GenDean Blog — at just 17-years old — and his 2010 article on the potential impact of Square on political fundraising was featured on The New York Times' Bits Blog.

A fourth-generation Marylander, he currently lives in Severna Park, Maryland with his wife Christy and their three children: Oliver, Moira and Henry.

I’m saying that — for the purpose of the variables — you can consider “is_intern?” to mean “is_control_panel_user?”. Assume that anyone with Control Panel permission would be caught by is_intern regardless of how restrained their access is.

Mark — While it’s not possible to automatically forward emails when using NationBuilder as your email provider, it is possible to use NationBuilder with an external email provider (that offers automatic email forwarding) and link the two using NationBuilder Mailboxes: http://nationbuilder.com/how_to_use_mailboxes

Aaron — That’s not currently possible. If you wanted to include the mailing’s subject line in the email, you’d have to write it in manually.

commented on Customizing color for a single Support Nav button.
Eileen — Unfortunately, there are several possible explanations for why it’s not working for you. Generally speaking, changing the design of a theme — even just a color — is technical work that requires some baseline experience working with HTML & CSS. My advice was meant as a suggestion of where to start, not a plug-and-play example. If you’re not comfortable troubleshooting it yourself (and that’s fine, since most people aren’t!), I’d recommend reaching out to a NationBuilder Architect for assistance. http://www.nationbuilder.com/architects

commented on Track relationships and organizations in NationBuilder
This is a great feature, Jim. Thank you for it. As Tony’s comment shows, it’s going to be a big help with tracking both relationships and recruitment activity, etc.

If / when the engineering team is able to circle back around, it would be awesome to be able to batch update relationships so that I can work with folks to retroactively clean up databases with organizations. You’d be able to use a filter to capture everyone who’s email includes ‘@nationbuilder.com’, add them to a list, and mark them as ‘an employee’ or the ‘NationBuilder’ organization. Otherwise, you’ll need to do it manually.
