How do I see which criteria were used to create a list?

Is there a way to examine a list to see which criteria were selected in "advanced search" in order to create it?  For example: I created a volunteer recruitment list but I don't remember what criteria I used to create it (strong and weak supporters, petition signers, etc.) and I'd like to find that out.

Once people have been added to a list there's no way to reveal how they were added to that list, as it's possible for people to have been added to a given list from a variety of methods:

  • one at a time;
  • in a batch from a search;
  • by cutting turf from another list;
  • etc.

You can, however, see the criteria that determines a filter. (See below.)

Filters are saved searches that you can use to organize and sort the people in your database. If you find yourself regularly creating lists, then forgetting what criteria you used to create it, it may make sense for you to first create a filter. Then, you can create new lists based off the results from your filter. This approach will allow you to retroactively match your historic filters to their corresponding lists.
