commented on Get visual by embedding Instagram!
Hannah, you can embed a widget on any page on your nation’s website in the template of the page. Just remember to place the embed code below the page content area. More information is available here: http://nationbuilder.com/how_to_add_a_widget_to_webpage

commented on Set Unsubscribe Page
Michael, you’re correct that you are unable to change the unsubscribe link that is required in every email blast from your nation. I’ve moved your question to the feature suggestion area so that other people can comment on it.

commented on Display Pages of Type .. value should be persistent
To close this loop, draft events now display in a calendar in the events / subpages area. The number of subpages listed is inconsistent and it is on our engineering radar.

commented on Remove "Calendar" from your list of features.
When I was a customer of NationBuilder, I didn’t find the term “calendar” confusing because all of the documentation defines what it does. I also never expected it to be used instead of my personal calendar (whether I choose a Microsoft, Apple, or Google calendar for that functionality).

If you see something confusing about our documentation, please feel free to comment on a specific page. You can choose whether or not to accept RSVPs from the Event Settings > Basics area, and you can use calendars to organize events – displaying all events from your website, only events listed within that calendar, or only events with a particular page tag. Plus, you can allow user-generated events in a calendar. With advanced Liquid knowledge, you can also display events in a grid format. See: http://nationbuilder.com/how_to_calendar for additional information.

When I organized events across the country, it was much more useful to display them by distance on a map than it would have been to use a Google Calendar.

I’m sorry to hear this feature has been confusing. The feature isn’t a selling tool – it works as it was intended to work. NationBuilder is described as a platform for organizing, including a people database, website management, fundraising / invoicing, and communication tools.

In addition to the above overview, you can sell tickets to an event and maintain complete control over your relationship with attendees. This is really a unique advantage to using NationBuilder, in my opinion.

commented on How do I change what which Twitter account appears on the main sidebar where it says "Follow ___"?
Preston, you’ll need to either change the Twitter account associated with the broadcaster or choose a different broadcaster. More than one broadcaster can use the same email address – so if that is why you want to use a particular broadcaster as the primary broadcaster for a site, you have some options.

commented on Email addresses in Export
Please know that I have brought this issue up on several occasions. I’m sorry I don’t have a better update for you, but know that I will continue to advocate for this. I’m going to move this page to our suggestion area, because it will require expansion of the export feature.

commented on Re-assigning point person
Whitney, this may not be able to help you now, but here’s what I’d do in this situation. First, change the password of the point person who has left the organization. If it’s an amicable break up and you want to give them their profile back, you can give the person the new password later.

Then, go to their profile page and look at Network > assigned. You can also get to this page by clicking on the point person’s name in another person’s profile. Now you’ll see the full list of people assigned to them. Click the large plus button at the top of the group of people to add them to a list. (You can create a new list from here as well.) Once everyone is on a list, you can batch update them to give them a different point person. Once they’re batch updated, you can remove permissions from the original point person’s profile, allowing them to remain a public supporter of your organization without control panel access.

commented on How do I add ads to my website?
Troy, I’m sorry you find the documentation unhelpful. It does require theme customization and this FAQ provides instructions on doing so. While Ian is not currently a NationBuilder employee, the information he provided in the above answer remains correct. If you would like to suggest an advertising feature, the best place to gather community input is to create a feature suggestion here: http://nationbuilder.com/suggest

commented on How to tag an event
Sorry for the delay in response – a calendar can have tags on it. Each event within the calendar creates a separate webpage on your site and that event’s page can be tagged. So the tags in that location apply to an individual event, not the entire calendar, as long as you are editing the event page.

commented on Any plans for donations by text message?
Mica, we do not plan to add text to donate functionality. There are actually quite high setup and processing fees involved in that type of fundraising and it seems to only be effective with extremely large numbers of donors. Additionally, credit card numbers are never stored in your nation’s database – they are handled directly by your donation processor for security purposes.

commented on Export Facebook data
Jonathan – it’s against the Facebook TOS to export Facebook IDs, so those aren’t stored in your people database. I’ve moved your question to our feature suggestion area because you’re correct that Facebook information is currently not included in our exports.
