So this works, but the top 4 results are paid ads from external sites before it starts showing results from my website… very far from ideal!

No, your various techniques have not proven to be effective. My site has had 3 waves of bot signups and posting of content in the last month. This has seen traffic to my site temporarily increase 10 fold, which is messing with my analytics. It is a significant problem.
