How do I delete a page?

Official response from

To delete a page, go to Settings > Page settings.

There are two levels of deleting a page. If you change the page status to deleted, the page will be completely removed from your website, not accessible from its page slug, and will be removed from search results. You'll be able to resurrect the page at a later date and the content will continue to live in your control panel.

If you click the "Delete page" button at the bottom of the screen, the page will be permanently and completely removed from both your website and control panel. Since deleted pages cannot be restored, a pop-up will appear to confirm your decision. You cannot click the "Delete page" button if the page has subpages. You will first need to move or delete all of its subpages, blog posts, and/or events.

Garrett- Yes, you can make a site your primary site under Settings > Defaults > Primary website. But I’m going to send you an email directly to get a better sense of how you want your new nation to be set up so I can give you an answer more tailored to your needs.

Mark — Without taking a look directly at your page, I cannot say for sure. I can, however, recommend that you change the page’s status to ‘deleted’ and change its slug to something you don’t plan to use (ex: ‘blog_old’). That will free the slug ‘blog’ to be used for a new page.

Ian, I appreciate the instructions above except the issue I’m having – and I’ve seen listed by others here – is that sometimes the Delete Page button does not appear in the bottom right corner of the screen. I’m currently having this problem with a Blog page I created and would now like to delete and reuse the slug. I deleted the one post that was on the page, there are no sub-pages, no followers, no nothing associated with the page, and I’ve published it. Still, no Delete Page button. So what’s happening?

Sebastián — I’ve updated the answer above to include screenshots. I hope that addresses your concerns.

These instructions are completely wrong, there is no delete button when you click on websites, red or otherwise. NB’s back-end is so convoluted it’s impossible to get clear answers on anything.

    1. There’s no “control panel”
    2. There’s no “websites”

If you click on “website” then on the pencil/edit icon of your website then you’ll get to the sites settings where you’ll find a “Delete Site” button, however as you might have already noticed this one does not delete pages.

To change a pages “STATUS” to Deleted you must go to Pages > Desired Page > Settings > Status and change it to “Deleted”.

    Still no Delete button.

Stephen — If you delete the page using the “delete page” button at the bottom of the page’s “Settings” tab, you’ll be able to reuse the slug. If you do it by changing that page’s ‘Status’ to “Deleted” the slug will remain taken.

Does anyone know how to completely delete the page from the database. Nationbuilder seems to keep the deleted page in memory, so that you cannot use the same slug name for a new page. The only workaround I’ve found is to rename the old slug with a different ending so that I could reuse the original slug (i.e. to reuse Gallery as slug, I had to name deleted page slug Galleryold.

I clicked on the page I wanted to delete, went to settings and then changed the status to “deleted.” That worked.

Hey Troy — It’s not possible to delete a homepage. If you’d like to delete that basic page, you’ll need to first set another page as your homepage; that should surface the delete button on your basic page.

I don’t see the delete button anywhere. I am on a basic home page

I am having the same issue as Christian. Even when subpages are deleted, it’s not working.

Christian — I just checked in with you directly by email so that we can look more closely into your particular situation.

Hi Ian, I see the delete button on pages of type “basic” but not on type “blog”. Even if I haven’t added a post to it yet. If it has a post, i drill down to the lowest level so that I’m on a post, i.e. a page with no subpages, and neither in the settings tab nor elsewhere can find a delete button.

Christian — Have you checked to make sure that the page you’re trying to delete does not have any subpages? That will prevent you from deleting it.

I created a test blog page with a test post, and no matter what I do I can’t seem to get the delete page button to appear anywhere. Whether the page is published or drafted, whether it has subpages or does not, I can’t seem to get a delete page button to appear anywhere.

I’m missing something very basic here….
