if you have a price set up for an ongoing membership and later change it down the road, do old (original members at the first price) pay more or are they grandfathered in at the original lower price?

Older members will not be forced to pay the difference when the membership price is upgraded. However, the next time that they're membership comes up for renewal, it will be at the new price for that membership level.
