My email is paused, what do I do?

Don't worry, we're here to help. Before we explain how to resume your capabilities, it's important to explore why you may have been paused.

NationBuilder uses a network of shared IPs to deliver email blasts. Sharing IPs means you benefit from a strength in numbers advantage, but it also means that one bad email blast could affect every NationBuilder customer. Major ISPs like AOL, Yahoo, Gmail, and others use the results of your email blasts to determine whether or not to allow your next message. For this reason it is particularly important that we keep the percentage of bad emails, bounced emails, and spam reports to a minimum.

NationBuilder has a system of checks and balances to prevent the transmission of spam. If one of your blasts receives results that can negatively affect your deliverability (i.e. high spam, bad, and/or bounce rates) your email blasting capabilities may be temporarily paused to prevent further damage to your reputation.

Here is what to expect if your email blast capabilities are paused:


First Offense

  • You will receive an email explaining the pause with recommendations for preventing future pauses from our Customer Support Team.
  • Depending on the severity of the results, the email may contain a set of instructions that will need to be completed and verified to resume your email blast capabilities.

Second Offense

  • You will receive an email explaining the pause with instructions and recommendations to resume your email blast capabilities from our Customer Support team.
  • If you received recommendations on your first pause, they may become requirements.
  • If you are an Enterprise or Network customer, we may ask that you discuss your email practices with your Account Manager.

Third Offense

  • You will receive an email explaining the pause with instructions and recommendations to resume your email blast capabilities from our Customer Support Team.
  • If you received recommendations on your first or second pause, they may become requirements.
  • If you are an Enterprise or Network customer, we may ask that you discuss your email practices with your Account Manager.
  • Depending on the severity of the results and your previous send history, your email blast capabilities may be suspended.
