What is the easiest/best way to set up ride sharing?

We have a statewide event and would love to help people post that they are offering a ride or that they need a ride so they can (or we can help them to) connect the dots, plus make the info easily accessible.

John posts "I need a ride from Charlotte," Jenny posts "I have room for three from Fayetteville" - that sort of thing. Bonus points if visitors can search for ride offers or needs from a given location, but not necessary.

What is the best way to do this?

I would say user submitted events or even a suggestion box with comments so people could comment on the 'suggestion' with their answer.
