Lisa Hwang
Chief Operating Officer
Lisa is an entrepreneur and executive who scales and professionalizes visionary ventures into thriving organizations. An educator by training, her success is rooted in her ability to develop leaders and flourishing organizational cultures built on inclusivity. Lisa leads from the belief that it takes everyone working together to fulfill on the promise of an inspiring mission. Work is the fodder for growth at an individual and collective level.
She serves as NationBuilder's COO. In her nine year tenure at the company she has led efforts to professionalize core operations, expand leadership development programs, and to strengthen the community culture of the organization.
Prior to NationBuilder Lisa founded and led a high-performing public charter middle school for which she was awarded an Official Citation for Service by the Massachusetts state legislature. The school's success largely hinged on the deliberate cultivation of an inclusive culture of all stakeholders - a highly diverse student body, educators from across the country, student family networks, and the local community. She also started a pro-bono, highly subsidized summer placement program to fight "summer slide" and ensure every student has access to high quality summer experiences that drive learning. Both programs thrive today. She earned her BA from UCLA and her MA from Stanford University.
Lisa is most energized when she is helping people become the best version of themselves, because in doing so, all things are possible.
