Marketing Intern

We are looking for motivated college students with strong writing skills to help tell thousands of campaigns, businesses, nonprofits and government agencies more about NationBuilder.

NationBuilder is the toolkit for leaders - social media, supporter outreach, online donations, events management, email, a contact database and an easy-to-use website, all in one affordable package. As a marketing intern, you will be writing copy for NationBuilder's website as well as producing content for NationBuilder's blog.

The primary qualities we are looking for in this new member of our intern team are:

  • You have very strong writing skills. Experience with ad copy or political writing is a big plus.
  • You have the ability to write copy that is clear and concise.
  • You are interested in telling the stories of political campaigns, nonprofits and small businesses.
  • You hate asking "quick questions" and would rather just figure things out yourself.
  • You don't want to spend your days getting coffee and answering phones. (although we have a great coffee machine)
  • You are excited by the prospect of an internship that allows you to do autonomous work on projects that matter.
  • You are invigorated by technology, not afraid of it.
  • You want to be a part of a top-notch intern team that is guided by organizing principles.
  • You are fearless and ready to take on the establishment.
  • You are interesting -- maybe you know another language, have a crazy life story, or are a struggling comedian, just something different.
  • You can commute to our downtown LA office at least twice a week.

You will be working as part of a team that consists of college students from LA's top universities. We are a startup and provide a stipend that works out to about $11/hr. Past interns have received class credit for internships and we'll work with you to fulfill your university's requirements. While we cannot guarantee employment after your internship, we are a fast growing company and have given past interns full and part time job offers upon successful completion of their time here.

Deadline to apply is midnight December 16th, but applications are processed on a rolling basis so we encourage you to apply immediately. Start date is the week of January 14th. To apply, send an email to the "jobs" address you see in the footer of this page. It should include:

  1. Writing Assignment: Tell an interesting story about yourself in a blog post that is 500 words or less. Then tell the same story in 150 words or less, and then in 140 characters or less (like a tweet, but you don't have to actually tweet it)
  2. Your resume
  3. Link to your website or blog if you have one
  4. Relevant writing samples and past projects

From our current intern, Leon, who is a Senior at USC:

"Working at NationBuilder has been an extremely rewarding experience. I've had the opportunity to work on a diverse array of projects while learning valuable skills. The intersection of business, politics, tech, and the startup world is a truly exciting place to be. The NationBuilder team is compromised of smart, talented, professional individuals and the atmosphere at the office is simply phenomenal. My entire time here, I felt like I was working with, rather than under, my supervisors.  I encourage anyone who is looking for an opportunity to do exciting, engaging, challenging work on a day-to-day basis to check out NationBuilder."
