Adding a cookie banner to your website is a legal requirement in many countries. And even when not required, it’s best practice to be transparent with your website visitors about cookies because it establishes trust and empowers them to take an active role.

What are cookies?

Cookies are used to track website activity. When someone visits your site, the server gives them a cookie that acts as an identification card. Depending on the type of cookie, the browser may store that cookie during their session, or pass it back to the server upon each return visit to that site. Some cookies are necessary for basic site functionality (like saving the information you’ve submitted between pages of a form), while others are used for marketing or data analytics tracking. This latter category can help website managers create a more personalized navigation experience, but some consider it intrusive.

Our new cookie banner

We know that putting privacy at the center is essential to earning your supporters’ trust and building meaningful relationships. That’s why we’re excited to announce that we’ve created a dynamic cookie banner integration that is GDPR, CCPA, and ePR compliant! Through our partnership with Cookiebot, you can enable a banner on your website that will automatically audit your site for all cookies that may be loaded.

Upholding transparency

Providing a cookie banner means your site visitors have visibility into the cookies that are being tracked when they visit your website and can make an informed decision on whether they want to accept them. With our new integration, they’ll also be able to easily change their preferences at will. Creating this transparency is one of the ways you can build trust with your supporter base and show that you value their privacy.

Owning your own data

Having an advanced cookie banner is also useful for your own responsibility over what you are putting out into the world. Websites change constantly and if you have embedded content on your website, such as social media widgets or videos, you may be allowing third party services to track data. Adding a cookie banner that blocks this tracking until a visitor consents ensures that they will always be properly informed and protected.

We’re proud to be releasing this integration that allows you to get advanced cookie banners through an extremely simple setup process. If you’d like to learn more about the technical details and how to set it up, you can read our documentation.
