When using the paid membership page template to process recurring donations, people who try to process a recurring donation get an error message if they are already logged-in members - "You are already a member of this site: Log in here". Is there anyway to disable this so that the paid membership page can be used to process recurring donations as well as memberships? (i.e. editing the template or doing other customization to allow logged-in members to purchase recurring donation using the paid membership page template without getting an error).
Hello Trevor,
Membership pages were intended to create members out people after they have already chosen a recurring donation amount and processed the settings with Paypal, and allow them to process a new recurring donation after their current term has exprired.
Its a way to automate the process, but you can also manually make people members, change their expiration dates, remove the payment requirement and switch their levels.
I logged in as a member, and tried to process a recurring donation - and I see what you mean. While it looks like an error it is actually showing because their membership term is still current, and the system is preventing them from making a mistake and paying again.
Making that clearer, or providing more options here, is a really good idea. We encourage you to add this as a feature request for our engineers here: nationbuilder.com/suggest. Submitting it there allows other users to show their support for features, and helps us set our development priorities. If it gets enough traction, our engineers may develop it.
In the meantime, if people need to change/renew their membership, you can either do it for them manually in the backend, or remove their membership level and have them reapply it. You can add a blurb explaining this, and also provide a link to a donate page for a one-time payment.
Thanks.
