A link on the 404 error page to send users back to the home page would be useful. As it is, users can't even click the "back" button from the 404 page.

I think this is much needed. Even an interim solution displaying a link to the domain would be a big improvement.

If I go to example.com/badslug the 404 page should at minimum help me get to example.com – some users aren’t sophisticated to edit the address bar, and many mobile devices and tablets make editing the text in the address bar a hoop to jump through. Removing that hoop is a good thing.

An additional improvement would be to display the logo of the domain. If I’m trying to get to a page on NationBuilder.com and I get a big green 404 I might get “spooked” into doing something else with my time. The (presumably familiar) logo of NationBuilder may reassure me that I’m “close” to where I was trying to go and thereby encourage me to take an additional step to find the page I’m looking for (ie go to the front page and hunt for it).
