A place to start: seven weeks of virtual conversations and skill building

What can I do to combat white supremacy? Where do I begin? These questions are being asked by people around the world who want to take effective and meaningful action to disrupt systemic racism. And of course there’s not just one answer.

Dismantling structural racism is a complex task that requires us to focus not just on what must change externally, but what we must address internally. It requires us having difficult conversations - with ourselves and with each other. It’s messy and it’s deeply personal.

A Place to Start is a seven-week experience for individuals who want to strengthen their personal capacity for anti-racist work. This experience will be anchored by community building in small groups, with each group serving as the primary unit for participants to work on foundational skill building.

Key details:

  • Sessions will take place virtually for seven consecutive Saturdays from 10am PT-noon PT
  • To participate you *must* be able to attend all seven sessions (beginning June 20th and ending August 1st)
  • While the entire cohort will meet during our first and last sessions, the bulk of this experience will be done in your small group. Groups will have no more than 8 participants, including 2 facilitators.
  • This is a free offering
  • This space is one of learning. It is for you if you are willing to listen, to be uncomfortable, and to challenge yourself and others. Participants will be expected to relate with deep care and respect.
