Hi,
I am currently able to receive volunteer signups just fine, but in the sign up page in my intern page I am not receiving any notification e-mail. I've tried tagging them and adding the tag to my notifications, but I am still unable to receive a notification e-mail. It might be a simple fix but I am unable to find a way to get an e-mail notification every time someone fills out that form. Thank you for your help!
There are two ways to mark signups as needing followup: the first way is to assign them a point person. The point person will be assigned if the user does not already have a point person (this is true for all action pages - if a new donor already has a point person, they wont be re-assigned, nor will someone filling out a survey or RSVP'ing for an event). Nevertheless, it is still best practice to assign people to a point person when they take action, to ensure that newly engaged users have a point person within your nation.
The second way to alert yourself when someone submits a signup page is to set a followup for those people. When editing the page go to Signup Settings > Settings. Check the box "Mark people who signup on this page as needing follow-up." Once that box is checked, the page will change and give you the option of selecting the Follow-up Type and the due date for the follow-up. You can edit Follow-up Types from Settings > Defaults > Contact types.
By monitoring the Dashboard > Everyone > Followup View, you'll have a holistic idea of the people connected to your nation who need followup from you or any other point person in your nation. We find this to be better than email notifications, as it keeps the process contained within your nation.
Our how-to video on followups and priority levels explains this feature in detail: http://nationbuilder.com/how_to_followup
This Follow-up FAQ also helps explain followups: http://nationbuilder.com/what_s_the_followup_feature_and_how_do_i_use_it
You are correct that there is no setting to receive emails whenever someone signs up for your nation, as indicated by the current options in People > [edit individual record] > Notifications tab. If you think this would be valuable to have, please submit it to our feature suggestions page: nationbuilder.com/suggest. If it gets enough traction our engineers may develop it.

Within your Control Panel, navigate to that person’s profile. Under their “Notifications” tab, check the box under “Everyone” that corresponds to the action they’d like to be notified about. See this screenshot for an example: http://d.pr/i/knb0/3V0cWDvO
Once that’s checked, they’ll receive an email notification anytime anyone takes that action.
I can see you’ve made a clear choice not to have the option of email people regarding newly marked follow ups and I think several users, like me, think it’s not the right choice. I would like the option of alerting at least one user when there is a new follow-up for some sorts of contacts.
For donations, and new volunteers, it is critical people get followed up immediately. However, in a small organisation new donations and new volunteers might only happen once a week or once a fortnight. Start up organisations I support need to have someone checking the follow ups daily in order to respond to something that happens quite irregularly.
This is particularly difficult regarding donations which for most organisations are handled be a separate person to the volunteer organising and who may not have any other reason to be on Nationbuilder daily or even weekly otherwise.

Rather than change a supporters point person — which, I’d agree, is not a sensible workflow — we have specific “Follow Up Types” that are point-person agnostic. For example, the fundraising chair would respond to anyone that has been assigned a “Donation Thank You” follow up, regardless of who is assigned as the point person for that supporter.
This allows us to ensure that certain people are consistently handling a category of tasks while preserving our established point people.
Wouldn’t a signup add a contact, and therefore kick off an email?
(There is no search at the http://nationbuilder.com/suggest page, so it’s hard to tell if the suggestion has already been made. Has it, and if so, what’s the status? )
