Neighborhood Legislature is seeking field organizers in San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento region to mobilize communities to take action towards empowering California’s people with a true voice in politics.

Overview of Role:

Over the summer, Field Organizers will activate hundreds of new volunteers to whom they will offer supervision and training. Organizers will work as part of a team of 5 organizers in their region, working with a Regional Outreach Director to hit and exceed weekly and long-term targets. They will also be responsible for grouping volunteers into sub-teams of their own to maximize the effectiveness of the volunteer base.

Job Duties:

•   Identify Supporters: Through petitioning and other methods of outreach, organizers will identify community members who are motivated by issues of empowerment and political reform to recruit as volunteers.

•   Recruit Volunteers:  Field Organizers will work to mobilize a pre-determined number of new volunteers every week through phone, email, and in-person outreach.

•   Plan and Run Events:  Organizers will plan the events and actions in which their volunteers participate. Examples of events that Organizers might run are letter-writing events, petitioning at government buildings, happy hours for supporters, house parties, etc…

•   Develop Leaders:  Organizers will work with the best, most dedicated volunteers, teaching them organizing skills so that that they can more effectively lead their fellow volunteers to new levels of success. These leaders will learn how to recruit volunteers, train people to write letters and do petitioning, etc…

•   Record Keeping:  Organizers will keep consistent records about the supporters they identify, the leaders they develop, the actions they plan and execute, and other information that could be useful for future organizing efforts. All personnel information will be captured in our online Nationbuilder database, which Field Organizers will update regularly. Other reporting tools and systems will be implemented as needed.
