Forget Resolutions, Let's Make Community (Oakland)

New Year's resolutions usually go like this: First, we think about all the things we don’t like about ourselves - our flaws, our shortcomings, and our insecurities. And then we make promises to fix what we think is broken. We swear we will be really disciplined, because if we can just do X,Y, or Z, then we will be happy. Somewhere around Valentine's Day, we give up or stop caring and the rest of the year is business as usual. This process is uninspiring and ineffective, and often very lonely.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. What if New Year's could be about creating something that inspires us, rather than fixing what we think is broken? In this workshop, we will look back at 2014 to identify the things we care most about in our lives and discover shared visions and values. Then, we will create goals and plans for the New Year both for ourselves and for our communities, and we will support each other in order to make them come true. We already have everything we need in our community to be the kind of people we want to be and create the world in which we want to live. In this workshop, led by NationBuilder Evangelist, Harmony Eichsteadt, we’ll discover how our broken parts can be our path to making a difference in the world, and we'll unlock the resources we don't even know we have, to begin 2015 powerfully, together.
