Kathleen O'Connor Ives, candidate for the First Essex seat in the Massachusetts state senate, won the democratic nomination for her district in a surprise victory in September. She beat out two competitors including the clear favorite of Democrats in the region, former Methuen Mayor William Manzi, who led both his opponents in fundraising and was endorsed by Newburyport Mayor Donna Holaday and former state senator Steve Baddour.

Tonight, O'Connor Ives, who is in her third term as Newburyport city councilor, won her state senate race, beating out her GOP opponent Shaun Toohey with 43 percent of the vote (as of 10pm ET). Poll results showed her with a commanding wins in several towns including Methuen, Newburyport, North Andover, and Haverhill.

O'Connor Ives used NationBuilder for her online campaign, which gave her the edge in the race and received attention from the press in September. Kathleen used NationBuilder to build her website, connect with their supporters through social media, organize events, and raise funds - all in one place.
