photo_58216_20151220.jpgYou’re running a campaign and you are gathering lots of email addresses. You want to make the most of them. But when you send emails, people are telling you they aren’t getting them, or that they are ending up in spam folders. If this sounds like you, then here are three top tips to stop that happening.

1. Check your set up

The first question is, what email address are you sending from? If you are using an email address from a free provider like hotmail or gmail, this can often result in email getting sent to spam folders.

You should use an address that accepts replies - using fake email addresses or ones that start donotreply@ can be a flag for unwanted email.

2. Authenticate your domain

So now you have your broadcaster using an email address on your domain, you need to make sure that domain is authenticated.

This is a process by which you can tell mailservers that NationBuilder is allowed to send email from your domain. Without this authentication, email companies have no way of knowing whether emails you send from NationBuilder are from your organisation, or someone pretending to be you.

Depending on how you manage your domain, there are two different ways to get your email authenticated.

3. Segment your database

Not everyone in your email list will have signed up for the same reason or from the same source. Use NationBuilder’s filtering tools to divide your list up into different target groups. This will allow you to target your messaging and asks.

The more you can target your emails, the better your open and click rates will be. Email providers scan the interactions with emails from different domains to determine how much people seem to be interested in those emails.

So the more you can get people to interact with your emails, the more likely they are to reach inboxes in future.
