Archiving tags

I am updating our tagging system from 2014. We have campaigns which have 4 or 5 tags for 2015. I want to reduce it to one overall tag. Currently I am creating a filter, exporting the list generated, then updating the tags in the CSV spreadsheet and then importing the updated spreadsheet.

Two questions:

- is there a faster more efficient way to do this?

- the exported list includes individuals & organisation. But the import lists all as people. I have added the sign up type to the CSV spreadsheet but it won't import. So the organisations are duplicated as individuals and then I have to merge duplicates. Any suggestions to prevent this?

Thanks.

Yes, there is a faster way to do this. Here's what you need to do:

1.  Filter for everyone with any of those tags.

2. Add them to a list.

3. Run several batch updates on that list to (a) add your new tag and (b) remove each of the surplus tags.

There is no need to export or reimport. If you ever do need to import a list that does have both organizations, then the signup_type column needs to have either a 0 (for a person) or a 1 (for an organization).
