Tips for creating a donation page and managing contributions
- Use the default dollar amounts to let people know what kind of contributions are acceptable. By making a low dollar contribution ($5, $10, $15) available as a default you are letting people know that no donation is too small, and enabling people who might not be able to afford the high dollar contributions to take ownership of your organization and your cause. Keep in mind that when someon donates you are getting their full information (email, phone, address) entered in your database, and you can always go back and ask them to donate again.
- Allow people to take pride in supporting your cause by making recent donations public. People will still have the option to keep their donation private, and NationBuilder will never display the amount someone donated publicly no matter what.
- Use tracking codes to get a better handle on where your money is coming from. Attaching a tracking code to your donation page and then using a different tracking code for offline donations lets you easily see how your online fundraising stacks up to your offline fundraising.
- If you are a political campaign and are using the campaign edition, be sure to set up your election cycle and donation limits within each election so that none of your donors goes over the legal contribution limit.
- Use the advanced search under Donations in the Finances tab to get an in depth look at who your donors are. Don't forget that the search fields are separated by donations at the top and people on the bottom. If you are entering $ amounts in any field be sure to use cents and no decimal points, example: $500 = 50000 in search field.
