Does anyone know how get rid of the grey/ black lines over all the photos in the Headliner theme?

Hi Isabella,
Those grey and black lines are a result of your images being stretched to fit the dimensions specified for Headliner in NationBuilder's stock theme guidelines. Featured content sliders on the Headliner theme are suggested to be at least 1024px wide, with an aspect ratio of around 16:9 (for a 1024px wide image, the height should be around 576px).
A best practice is to start with an image that meets or exceeds your final dimensions and scale down from there. Starting with a small image and increasing its dimensions will result in poor image quality.

In your custom theme.scss under //dividers, find the colour scheme your theme is based on, and replace the respective url(…) for $divider-background-2 with ‘null’, so the line will then say:
$divider-background-2: null;
