Why are my emails being placed in the promotions tab in Gmail?

Google has an algorithm that determines which emails are placed in particular tabs. Though email placement is squarely placed in Google's hands, here are some general tips for increasing your chances of landing in the Primary email tab.

1. Ask your, recipients, to drag your email to the Primary folder.

2. Limit the number of links in your email.

3. Limit the number of pictures in your email.

4. Mention the reader’s name in your email. In NationBuilder this means leaving "{{recipient.first_name_or_friend}}" which is automatically placed at the top of email blasts.

5. Don’t go spammy like this: Hey!!! WANT TO MAKE MONEY FAST??!?!?

6. Write in Traditional Letter Form, use plain text and don’t tinker with fonts too much.

I hope the above is helpful and improves your chances of dodging the Promotions tab in Gmail.
