How to set up networked nations

A networked nation is a completely separate nation from Network HQ, with its own website, broadcasters, social media integration, finances, and people database. Networked nations are perfect for groups that have complete control over their local relationships and activities.

Networked nations have unique capabilities, which makes set up unique from independent nations. Set up can be difficult, and we’re here to guide you to success. We also offer implementation services to build out your network infrastructure for you.


Creating networked nations

Network HQ has the option to partially or fully subsidize the cost of networked nations. While each networked nation incurs an additional monthly fee, a bulk discount is available. These nations can be created as part of your implementation package. The HQ nation can also publish a nation signup page, which allows chapter leaders to start their own nations.

The getting started guide explains many of the decisions that need to be made when a new nation is created. There are several elements of the process that you may want to share across your network. You may find it useful to create the same permission sets, paths, and tag library within all networked nations. This will allow the network to orient its time around the same workflows. These features can be set up automatically in networked nations as part of your implementation package.


Importing control panel users and supporters to HQ

You can decide to automatically import control panel users and/or supporters from all networked nations. After at least one networked nation is created, the Nations section will appear in the HQ nations. In Nations > Settings there is a checkbox to import control panel users, along with the option to add a tag to these imported people. These automatic imports can create duplicate profiles in HQ. Alternatively, you can set up tag shares in each networked nation to apply a unique tag to its control panel users and supporters within HQ. 

Additionally, HQ can share people with networked nations, allowing each networked nation to outreach to people in their area, using tag sharing. Similarly, data can be shared from a networked nation to HQ and other networked nations. 


Unifying branding with shared websites, themes, and email templates

Maintaining brand consistency across a network can be a major headache. Sharing design and content across your network can help unify the look and feel of your organization.

When you create a custom website theme in your HQ nation, you can share that theme across your network. Similarly, custom email templates can be shared with the network. Sharing these design elements helps preserve your brand identity.

A website theme defines how a site looks, including its logo and colors. This is distinct from the pages within a site. Headquarters can create a site template for the network, including all pages and action settings. By sharing this website template, HQ can speed up chapter onboarding. The shared site is fully customizable within your networked nations. By starting from the same template, changes made by chapter leaders will not diminish your shared identity.

Each networked nation needs to accept theme, email template, and site sharing. Your network implementation package can include these steps.


Share data across the network

Networked nations can share information with each other and with HQ using tag sharing. A single piece of information can be shared (for example, that a person attended an event) across the network. Alternatively, a significant amount of profile information can be synced, including custom field data. Sharing the content of custom fields is only available within a network and only when the custom field architecture is defined in the HQ nation.


Export data to measure implementation

Once your networked nations are up and running, an overview of network activity is available by exporting a file of the aggregated statistics.

Each export is a snapshot of activity within the network at that moment in time. You can create network exports on a weekly or monthly basis. Comparing the stats included in each of these exports will give you an understanding of how activity grows over time.
