Track legislation and move your supporters to action!

Our new app partner uJoin takes issue-specific advocacy to the next level! uJoin’s platform ties together digital advocacy with advanced bill tracking so your supporters not only have a voice, but can track a bill’s progress through the legislative process – from sponsorship to committee.

Attach actions you want your supporters to take in support of the bill. Now, with NationBuilder integration, all those actions will be synced back to your nation.

To get started follow the steps below:

Step 1: Start by going to uJoin.org. Select “Signup” in the top menu bar. Enter your account details and an email will be sent with a confirmation link. Select the link in the email and you will be directed back to uJoin. From there, select your username in the top menu bar and scroll to the bottom of the page under “Authorize your NationBuilder account.” Enter your nation slug:

You will be asked to login to your NationBuilder account. After entering your credentials you will be redirected back to uJoin and a banner will appear indicating that you have successfully authenticated your nation.

Step 2: Select “Organization” in the top menu bar and create an organization. Within an organization, you can create multiple campaigns that might require different actions within each campaign. For example, I might work for a nonprofit that is advocating for net neutrality and gun control. In that scenario, I would want to set up two campaigns in uJoin – one for net neutrality and one for gun control. This will provide a cleaner breakdown of who supports which issue.

Enter your campaign details including name and campaign type. Attach the bill and add a description. Finally, choose what category the campaign falls under. Once you’re done select “Save and continue.”

Step 3: You are now ready to start building actions. Select the “Add new action” button from the right side of the page. Decide if you want your action to be a petition, email advocacy campaign, letter to the editor, or a testimonial. Input the details for that action. In this example we are using a petition action. The details we are filling out will may look different if you choose a different action.

Step 4: Once you’re done setting up your action, you can embed the campaign widget on your NationBuilder site or direct supporters to your uJoin public campaign site. When your supporters take the action you set up, their data will sync automatically with your nation.

The data collected includes your supporter’s name, email address, and a tag specific to that action. The tag will follow the following convention: “Ujoin:{name of action}:{name of action title}.”

From here you’re ready to start organizing! Sort your uJoin supporters into buckets based on the type of action they took and start moving them up a ladder of engagement. If someone signed a petition like in the example above, considering adding them to a volunteer or donor path and track their ongoing relationship with you. Ask them to take on more responsibility for the campaign, like sharing the campaign with their friends over social media. By combining uJoin and NationBuilder you can build incredible impact from a single action!
