I haven’t been able to access my control panel

Hi Katherine I did a bunch of testing and I was able to get it to work both from the control panel and from the public profile edit screen (if you are not seeing the upload a photo button on that screen you may have a theme that was created before the feature was added). Are you also making sure that the images are square and smaller than 56k?

Please email [email protected] so we can take a deeper look!

This feature is not working for our Nation or any other Nation I have a profile for. It is not working for any of our users. Please advise.

Users can upload their own photo via your website under “Account Settings” (bottom of the page).

You can also upload an image to a user’s profile from your control panel. Just go to a user’s profile – Click the “Profile” tab – Upload the photo under the “Profile Image” section.

Try it out on NationBuilder.com – Just scroll to the bottom of this page, click “account settings,” and upload your own image.

I think it is critical not only to be able to upload photos of nation members independent of Twitter or Facebook, but also to be able to make these visible on the public profiles, or to toggle them off but still have the ability to see them as part of a person’s record (for the convenience of administrators). A key part of knowing your supporters is having a photo of them, and this shouldn’t be dependent upon them having Twitter or Facebook (or having to use photos from those networks)

The ability to manually upload a profile picture for supporters would be very useful, and I’m frankly surprised that NationBuilder doesn’t include this functionality.

This is very important in my opinion. In my case, the person who is the owner of the “page” is not the actual person. I can’t change this and it wants to switch to me for the linkedIn login, which changes the picture to me, not the candidate. Users and admins need to be able to manage this for a number of good reasons. For instance, a supporter could change their twitter pic to something crude and embarrass the candidate by accident.

Then I fully support your option for reordering… But I would further recommend that the user should be able to select the order of preference or simply tick a box as to what profile the image should be pulled from. That would be a great addition to the platform.

Sorry @michael, I meant to suggest this to NationBuilder, not the users.

It is my current understanding that the Nation Builder platform pulls from Twitter (if linked) as a priority and there is no way to order the preferences in the platform.

Why don’t you just reverse the order of the pictures so that LinkedIn shows up first? My FB page is me riding on a unicorn and my LinkedIn page (for professionals networking) has a professional headshot. That would be a very simple solution, in my opinion.

Thomas – that is not a solution, it is a work around. The twitter image on my site showing up in my profile is well over 3 months old. I (and my supporters) should not have to disconnect our Twitter accounts to accomplish this. This should be a pseudo real time action. This is a basic function. While I like a lot of what NationBuilder has to offer (and have moved one of my many organizations to it full time) there is a lot lacking in basic functionality and CMS features. The bottom line is that if the Twitter cache is delaying the process, the user/supporter/customer should be able to manage what feeds/imports their profile is pulling from.

You all are on the right track, but please start to address the BASICS that will make your platform the best on the market.

Hi all – I wanted to add that there’s a hierarchy to what image is chosen for your avatar: Twitter, Facebook and then LinkedIn. We use a service that pulls in these images so there can often be a delay before an update takes place that goes beyond a cache issue. Keep in mind you can always go to your profile>Edit>Social Media to remove your Twitter profile link if you’d like to revert back to your Facebook profile image. Thanks for the feedback and we’ll take it into consideration for product development!

Agree strongly with @michael Wilson, all of these issues are problematic for creating a real community on the NationBuilder platform. Is this even in the pipeline?

Another thought… The user should be able to determine the preference (at minimum). Why is Twitter the primary push for data. Also, a users profile should not by automatically modified by simply tweeting! When a user tweets, it will override the users data with their Twitter profile data (which is far less comprehensive than facebook). NationBuilder needs to allow a user to choose their profile preferences and then supplement with the additional social network data sets.

This is also causing me problems. What is the cause in the delay when a Twitter pic is updated. I know you all have stated Twitter cache times, but that is not an accurate answer. If the pic is updated on Twitter, then your API should be pulling the current data. This needs corrected ASAP.

Nationbuilder doesn’t seem to be working very hard on this.
