Facebook Post with Image

When posting from Communication > Broadcaster, is there a way to show a preview and/or an image with the post?

For example, when putting in a link and some text to go along with it, NB sends it to Facebook and it displays with no images or link preview. When posting from within Facebook, FB will show an image and preview of the webpage being linked.

I'm guessing that the answer to this is "No," as the functionality would probably be on Facebook's end, but I thought I'd check. Thank you!

Hey Scott —

You've pretty much hit the nail on the head. While it's possible to post to Facebook from your broadcaster within the Control Panel, if you want the fully featured Facebook experience — including native links, photo posts and the ability to natively "mention" people in the text of your post — your best bet is to do your publishing directly from Facebook's site or mobile apps.

Is NationBuilder looking to add a feature where users can attach a photo or video when uploading a message to their social media accounts through NB?

@evan, the picture that’s configured in your social share prompt settings will actually only appear when that link is posted on Facebook or LinkedIn. Those social media sites attribute the picture to the link that is being shared, whereas Twitter requires you to actually upload a picture to the tweet which our social share prompt unfortunately doesn’t do.

What about the Facetweet boxes we see after signing a petition, for example. The posts I see from there don’t include an image even though one is set in the petition page social settings. Is posting images not supported in that function?

Ashleigh – it can take awhile for Facebook to recognize that you’ve added a photo in the Settings – Social Media section of a page on your site. To clear their cache, try inserting the page URL in their Debugger tool: https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug and then sharing the page on Facebook.

I have sent my pointman this as well….I have followed C.J.’s instructions, however there is still no preview picture when sharing directly from my page even after I uploaded one & saved the settings. Am I doing something wrong?

Taylor – if you’re linking to a page on your website, you can edit the picture in Settings > Social media and update the Thumbnail image for Facebook, etc. It defaults to your site’s logo. This allows you to include a photo with a link to a page on your nation.

To upload photos and videos, you’ll need to do that directly in Facebook.
