We are considering moving to taking donations through our Nationbuilder site. We're in Australia. I've been looking through this forum for relevant information as to how this will work for us, to enable us to assess the costs/benefits before we take the plunge.
Could you confirm whether or not the following things are the case?
- Currently, Stripe is enabled for one-off donations, but not for recurring donations
- Currently, the only way to have recurring donations in Australia is through PayPal, which requires the potential donor to leave the site and set up their own PayPal account
- (Possibly because of this) automatic receipts are sent for one-off donations, but not recurring ones
- You can't have the same donation page set up to accept both one-off and recurring donations (Igoing by radio buttons in back end of donation page)
- Potential donors *must* submit a complete address with their donation.
If the last point is the case, then what happens if they enter "Nowhere, none of your business, etc," as people do - will it still accept the donation?
Thanks.
Tanya - I moved your question over to our FAQ page.
- Currently, Stripe is enabled for one-off donations, but not for recurring donations
Correct. You can only use Stripe for one time donations at this time. There is a suggestion to add Stripe recurring billing.
- Currently, the only way to have recurring donations in Australia is through PayPal, which requires the potential donor to leave the site and set up their own PayPal account
Correct. The donor will need to leave the site and donate via PayPal.
- (Possibly because of this) automatic receipts are sent for one-off donations, but not recurring ones
It is possible via Authorize.net to get monthly email receipts - but not with PayPal.
- You can't have the same donation page set up to accept both one-off and recurring donations (Igoing by radio buttons in back end of donation page)
Correct. You can create a page that links to both one time and recurring donations but they cannot be on the same page.
- Potential donors *must* submit a complete address with their donation.
Correct. It looks like Australia is the only country that we've run into where address is not almost always required. We do not plan on changing this. The payment processor would need to match the address to the credit card for the donation to go through.
