This is not working for me. How do you add excerpts to a basic page?

I see the tags_show.html file. How do I add it to the page I want it to appear?

I’d like to add a slider to the home page only and not have it replace the header but instead be placed below the navigation. But I am at a lose as to how to do this. I have looked at _features.html, I tried the code below on my _columns_1.html. But it still replaces the header. I know some html but I am very new to the Nationbuilders cms.
