"Unrequiring" Donation page fields?

We are planning a fundraising event, and its supposed to be as quick and painless as possible. Towards that end, we do not need or want to require our donors to provide their email addresses or phone numbers. However, the form looks like these are stuck as required fields.

Is there any way to "unrequire" a field like these two?

You are able to edit the require-ability of some donation fields, such as Employer and Occupation, by following the steps in this FAQ: Need to Edit Donation Fields

Phone number and email are not, however, optional fields.

I wish NB staff would just say YES or NO to the question. It isn’t 100% clear to me that they are addressing the question, bc they are talking about other fields now.

Please fix this. Actually I’m trying to solve the issue of phone number field being required, but the staged donation form allowing the visitor to progress without filling it in, but not to send the donation. Horrific!

I agree with the comments. Sometimes you want to require a phone; more often you don’t.

There are some scenarios when making a purchase that I need to require a phone number for legal compliance. It would be great if I had the option on certain pages to require both email and phone, and other pages it would not have to be required.

Why on Earth would a phone number be required? That one feature alone is enough to switch to a different web hosting solution. The amount of people that would be turned off by being required to leave a phone number is way too high to even think of making this a required field.

Can they become optional fields? We are greatly concerned people will be turned off that they are providing information that they then can be spammed with, and thus not donate. If we cannot turn it off, is there an autofill option that we can, in a sense, fill in with an “N/A”?
