NB Design Help

Hey Team,

I'm very interested in NationBuilder, and would love to add it to my toolbox.
I currently build sites in Wordpress, and enjoy the easy page/post editor, plugins, widgets, theme customization and editor.
It would be most amazing to incorporate a full-on database for political organizing, and NationBuilder seems to be the way to go.
However, I have some concerns about design.
If I were to want to add a button on the sidebar that uses a custom designed button, would I have to upload a file, and then somehow code that into the sidebar style section? To do something like this in WP, I would put a text widget in a sidebar, place a previously uploaded image via <img...etc.> and be done with it.
Similarly, it is usually fairly easy to get a theme and play around with it to change colours, fonts, hide titles, etc. In NationBuilder, it looks as though it would be totally code-based, rather than themes having easily-changed and -defined options. Is this the case?
To summarize, it looks as if NationBuilder is almost fully reliant on 'raw' code to change appearance, whereas WP has various 'building blocks' that can come together AND has a place for 'raw' code editing.
Would you say this is the case?
Thank you very much for your time and consideration. I would really like to get NationBuilder into my toolbox and start using it for political causes ASAP, but would like a little more info, please.
Best,
CS
Official response from

Curt, correct, customizing NationBuilder themes requires knowledge of HTML and CSS.
