Los Angeles—Today, NationBuilder founder and CEO Jim Gilliam released the following statement after it was revealed that NGP VAN had made it possible for a Bernie Sanders campaign staff member to access the Clinton campaign’s targeting data.

“The fact that a campaign is getting punished for a technological problem on the part of the provider is really unfortunate.  Access to data that a campaign has purchased and managed should always be secure and should never be cut off.

“Because some campaigns host their data on platforms that have unsecure and outdated technology, all of their data is shared on the same database and even a simple bug can expose data across customers.

“At NationBuilder, security is our top priority. We believe that each campaign should work with their own data, which is why we isolate each customer's data into its own database from the very beginning. By doing so, security breaches like this one are nearly impossible with our software.”

“We manage tens of thousands of databases and have built tools to allow campaigns to share their data when they want, but only if they want.”
