Now that we can track and assign relationships between people and organizations, it would be extremely beneficial if the batch update feature, and the import fields were updated to reflect relationship types.

“I would like a list of all organizations tagged [university], along with any person whose relationship is [contact].”

“I need to import 2,100 organisations – each with their own contact person (which would be captured under relationships). I realise that you can’t import relationships via csv file, but I’m wondering if anyone has figured out a workaround to update this many relationships, without updating each relationship manually (which would be a huge task)? "
“We need the ability to import and export Relationships either via CSV file or via the API (or both). This function is available for Memberships and we need something similar for Relationships.
For our needs it would be sufficient just to export the two Nation Builder IDs and the type of relationship.
We need this function because we want to integrate Relationships data with our primary CRM."

Before importing our list of ~600 people, I specified their church organization in a column in the spreadsheet (there are about 40 organizations). I read that the import process does not allow specifying relationships, so I decided I’d have to rely on the Batch Update feature.
After importing, I’m noticing that it takes no less than TWENTY steps to batch update the relationships for a SINGLE organization. You read that right. Here’s what I have to do:
- filter for the congregation tag I created: click tag, type tag name, press enter
- create temporary list for these congregation members: click actions, click add all to list, click create list, type list name, click list name to add it to
- batch create relationships: click list name again to go to list, click batch update, click relationships, click relationship dropdown, scroll down to “member”, click name, type name of church, click “save relationship”
- delete temporary list: click lists, click list name in dropdown, click delete, click back to the people page
You know what would make this a ton easier? Allow doing batch updates on a filter. Forcing people to create lists to do batch updates is such a waste of time, especially if they are temporary lists that they have to delete right after. If I could just run Batch Update from my People tab on a certain filter, it would cut down those 20 steps to 9. That would be super, super nice.
Overall, so excited to be using Nationbuilder, but just bemoaning how manual a lot of this is. It’s a bad sign when I wish I could just manage my people in a spreadsheet again!
