Giving Tuesday Forum

Thanks for joining our Giving Tuesday Forum, a space for nonprofit and advocacy groups to ask questions, share their tips, and get to know other organizations participating in our Giving Tuesday campaign. There is a NationBuilder Giving Tuesday committee that will be checking in on the forum on a daily basis.

How to setup a peer-to-peer fundraising drive (the easy way)

So, I love our personal fundraising page feature, and I've seen lots of savvy NB customers (see: California Bicycle Coalition, and LivableStreets Alliance) rock the execution ... but I'll also be the first to admit pulling that off right -- which at the end of the day means making the personal fundraising page setup process easy and clear for your users -- can be a bit tricky.

Here's an alternative approach:

  1. Create a new Donation page for this drive (make sure to create a "EOY drive 2015" tracking code for it), and add a goal so you and your supporters can track your collective progress
  2. Create a new "most recruited donors" Leaderboard (People > More > Leaderboards) to serve as your campaign landing page, and include your core call-to-action and a link to your campaign's Recruiting page (see below) in the intro section
  3. Create "Recruiting" page, and enter the donation page slug in the "Page to promote" field under Recruiting settings. Use this page's intro section to explain why (so they can see who they recruited at the bottom of the recruiting page) and how (by signing in via FaceBook/Twitter/Email below) they should/can create their personal supporter account .
  4. Send out an email blast which calls on folks to join the fundraising effort by sharing their personal recruiter link, which can be dynamically personalized for each recipient, and points them to that Leaderboard so they can see how they stack up!

Bonus Tip: And if you want to spice that email up a bit, making it even easier for your supporters to spread the word, you can plug the above link into ShareLinkGenerator to create an automatic social share URL which you can hyperlink to some "Click here to automatically Tweet this out" text in your blast.

Now hop to it!
