Is it possible to allow a user to create an account with their email address without requiring email activation? I feel the multiple step process is not a best practice and will reduce satisfaction with the account creation process.
Official response from NationBuilder Support
The email activation process greatly reduces the number of spammers who will join your nation.
If you don't want to use the email verification process, you have two choices:
- Recommend that those people joining the site sign in to your nation via Facebook or Twitter. With either of these sign ups, they won't be sent the email verification emails. Once they are in the nation that way, if they wish to add an email address, they can do so.
- If you want people to sign in with email addresses, you can manually add the password to each profile by going to the profile and then going to edit--> password. Once that is done, you will need to contact each person and get them the password you have set.

I think there’s some confusion here between activating an account for a control panel user, compared to someone who signs up on the website. The multi-step solution of creating a password is necessary to protect your the database and all the settings contained in the control panel nation of your nation. Whereas it’s only necessary to have a supporter activate their account for your website if: (From our signup HOWTO http://nationbuilder.com/how_to_signup) “You want the person who signed up to create a login, check the box labelled “Display account activation message after signing up.” This will send an email confirmation to the person who signed up, prompting her to create a password so she can sign into your site at any time. This is most valuable if you have any pages that are password protected.”
Any responses?

The more people who support your suggestion, the more likely it is to be implemented, so be sure to share your suggestion after you make it.
The choices offered are not really feasible alternatives:
1. There was just a new study out yesterday by Pew detailing what it calls "Facebook fatigue – a majority of people taking sabbaticals from social network sites and many planning to reduce their usage.
2. Manually adding passwords and contact each person is frankly a ridiculous suggestion.
I suggest Nation Builder consider the needs of its customers and review best practices when making decisions about features. I believe the out of box user experience is a poor one for would be users of a nation.
